Guelph no longer offers a heritage redevelopment grant. The City's Brownfield, Downtown and Heritage Redevelopment Community Improvement Plan programs concluded in 2024.
The former Heritage Redevelopment Grant was tax-increment based. Rather than paying out cash against invoices, it offset the property tax increase resulting from restoration work. If you were told about this program, that is what was being described.
What is still available to Guelph owners: provincial heritage property tax relief, which municipalities may offer on designated properties under a separate framework; designation itself, which carries protection and may support other funding applications; and grant programs in neighbouring municipalities, if you own property elsewhere in Wellington County.
Guelph has a strong local trades cluster regardless of funding. Lime plaster, millwork and masonry restoration specialists all work in the city.
