Markham funds 50% of eligible conservation work on designated heritage properties, with a minimum of $500 in work and a maximum grant of $5,000. One grant per calendar year.
Do not stop at the grant. Markham also operates a heritage property tax reduction of 30%, which is a separate and ongoing benefit rather than a one-time payment. Over several years the tax reduction is frequently worth more than the grant, and owners routinely claim one without ever learning about the other.
