St. Marys funds 50% of eligible heritage conservation work on properties designated under the Ontario Heritage Act, either individually or within the Heritage Conservation District. The program splits into two tiers: $7,500 for eligible architectural work, and $2,500 for eligible façade painting.
That separation is unusual and useful. Most municipalities fold painting into a single pot. St. Marys treats it as its own category, so a painting project does not consume your architectural allowance.
For a town of its size, St. Marys — built substantially in local limestone — has one of the better-structured programs in Southwestern Ontario.
